We are expecting a lot from our dogs in order for them to fit into our modern lives. In working with clients, we emphasize that living together more harmoniously often comes down to understanding each other better. After all, we are different species with different motivations. We ‘speak’ a very different ‘language’ to each other and we express ourselves differently. No wonder, often there is a lot of confusion and misunderstanding between dogs and guardians. In order to have a better relationship with your dog, or to overcome a challenge, you need to listen to what your dog is telling you so you can understand their behaviour better and change it.

Whether you are trying to address an undesirable behaviour or trying to settle your new puppy or rescue into your family, my approach will be the same using positive reinforcement techniques. Encouraging, teaching and promoting good behaviours we would like to see more of, while helping you to understand what drives undesirable behaviours and how you can work with your dog to overcome these. This is a method that is backed by the latest scientific findings and yields the most success.

Each dog is an individual with very different needs and motivators. I use food, toys, games and real-life rewards such as social engagement to teach dogs good behaviours. I never use aversive tools or punitive methods (shouting or intimidating) to stop your dog from doing something as these are immensely harmful to the relationship between dog and human and can lead to serious behavioural issues.

I do not believe in the philosophy of a pack of leader or alpha leader or the dominance theory between humans and dogs. These theories are the result of flawed experiments that are outdated and have been disproven since.

In my classes and consultations, the priority is for dogs to have an enjoyable and stress-free experience. We will explore with you how to understand your dog’s emotional state by reading their body language and what to do if your dog is stressed or anxious.
